(Eagle News)– Signal No. 4 has been hoisted over Cagayan and northern Isabela, as “Ompong” moves closer to the area, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said late Friday afternoon.
In its 5 p.m. advisory, PAGASA said as of 4 p.m., the eye of the typhoon was located 340 kilometers east northeast of Casiguran, Aurora.
“Ompong” is packing maximum sustained winds of 205 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 255 kilometers per hour, as it moves northwest at 30 kilometers per hour, slightly accelerating.
Signal No. 3 is up over the Babuyan Group of Islands, southern Isabela, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Apayao, Abra, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Benguet, Ifugao, Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino and Northern Aurora, where waves in coastal areas could reach over 14 meters.
Batanes, La Union, Pangasinan, Tarlac, Nueva Ecija, southern Aurora and northern Zambales are under Signal No. 2.
According to PAGASA, Signal No. 1 is up over southern Zambales, Pampanga, Bulacan, Bataan, Rizal, Metro Manila, Cavite, Batangas, Laguna, Quezon incl. Polillo Is., Northern Occidental Mindoro including Lubang Island, Northern Oriental Mindoro, Masbate, Marinduque, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon,Burias and Ticao Islands, and Northern Samar.
“Ompong” is expected to exit the Philippine Area od Responsibility on Sunday, Sept. 16.
