Signal No. 1 still hoisted over Batanes as “Liwayway” intensifies further

Is likely to intensify into severe tropical storm within 24 hours

(Eagle News)–Signal No. 1 remains hoisted over Batanes as Tropical Storm “Liwayway” intensified further while moving over the Philippine Sea.

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said while “Liwayway” remains less likely to make landfall in the country, it is likely to intensify into a severe tropical storm within 24 hours.

Between today and tomorrow morning, “Liwayway” will bring light to moderate with intermittent heavy rains over Apayao, Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, and Batanes.

Those living in the area under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal Number 1 are advised to take precautionary actions against potentially strong winds.

“Liwayway” is forecast to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility between Wednesday evening and Thursday early morning.

PAGASA said the southwest monsoon will also bring scattered light to moderate rains with at times heavy rain showers over Ilocos Region, Central Luzon, Metro Manila, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Panay Island, Guimaras, and the rest of Cordillera Administrative Region.
