Sereno still undecided on whether or not to run for public office

(Eagle News) — Ousted Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno on Tuesday, June 19, said she had yet to decide whether she would run for public office in 2019.

In a television interview, Sereno said an announcement on what her decision was would be made “at the right time.”

“Some people believe it should be in the halls of the Senate where that voice is heard. Some others are saying, ‘No, no, it must be always from the position of Filipinos speaking from the streets..,” Sereno said.

Asked if she was taking steps to determine the awareness level of people of her, her popularity, and their performance assessment, among others, Sereno said “some people have volunteered” to do these things.

So far, she said she was “looking at the long-term transformation of the country.”

“(Because) the old solutions seem to not be working,” she said.

On Tuesday, June 19, the SC, voting 8-6, upheld its May 11 ruling that nullified Sereno’s appointment as Chief Justice, saying she did not raise new arguments that warranted the reversal of the same.

Those who voted to uphold the May 11 decision were the same justices who voted to nullify her appointment: Justices Noel Tijam, Teresita Leonardo-Castro, Diosdado Peralta, Lucas Bersamin. Francis Jardeleza, Samuel Martires, Andres Reyes and Alexander Gesmundo.
