(Eagle News)—-The camp of Supreme Court Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno has denied any hand in the filing of a third disbarment case against lawyer Larry Gadon, and in the letter urging the Solicitor General to file a quo warranto petition against Associate Justice Teresita de Castro.
It was Gadon who filed an impeachment complaint against Sereno, while De Castro has been very vocal against Sereno.
“Ang initiative ay ‘di nagmula sa kampo ni Chief Justice,” Josa Deinla, one of Sereno’s spokespersons said in a radio interview over dzbb.
According to Deinla, in fact, they only heard about the filings after these were done.
The third disbarment complaint against Gadon was filed by alleged concerned citizens Zena Bernardo, Nona Andaya-Castillo, Natividad Dela Cruz Natividad, Jose Mari Tomines Callueng, Jennifer Aiza Santaolaya, Evangeline Hernandez, Faith Angelie Catalan, and Mark Vincent Lim, who were allegedly offended by Gadon’s demeanor during oral arguments held against Sereno in Baguio.
The first disbarment complaint filed against Gadon was over his allegely hateful remark against Muslims, and his allegedly perjurious statements made in hearings on Sereno.
It was Jocelyn Maria Acosta who wrote a letter to Solicitor General Jose Calida, urging him to initiate quo warranto proceedings against De Castro for her alleged failure to submit her complete Statements of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth.
This, Acosta said, meant De Castro was “lacking integrity as a member of the Supreme Court.”
