Senate to probe officials behind social media upload of OFW rescue ops video in Kuwait

(Eagle News) — Senate officials want to investigate those behind the uploading in social media of the controversial rescue operation of distressed Filipino workers in Kuwait.

This came about as some lawmakers said that officials of the Department of Foreign Affairs workers who were behind this should be fired.

Senator Nancy Binay said she is planning to file a resolution seeking an investigation on the matter.

Baka maganda sa pagbalik namin sa Senado sa May 15 magkaroon ng hearing sa nangyaring ito. Kasi we can’t afford na maulit ito. Lalo na sa Middle East ibang-iba ang batas nila,” she said.

She also said that there should be a code of conduct for government officials on how to use social media.

Siguro dapat pag-aralan talagang maigi na magkaroon talaga tayo ng Code of Conduct when it comes to social media news, lalong lalo na sa government officials,” Binay said.

I think yung DICT (Department of Information and Communications Technology) ata nagsubmit na sa Malacanang. Siguro sana ma-fast track itong Code of Conduct,” she added.

Meanwhile, Senate President Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel said that officials of the government and other sectors should not use the controversy as a political instrument.

He said the sincerity of the Philippine government to resolve the diplomatic tension between the two countries is very important.
