(Eagle News)–The Senate on Monday, July 22, congratulated Senator Manny Pacquiao for his victory over American boxer Keith Thurman, who was ten years younger than him.
“I would just like to put on record that we, the Senate, congratulate the historic win of Senator Manny Pacquiao,” Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri said.
He said resolutions honoring Pacquiao would be tackled at later dates.
Zubiri made the manifestation prior to the suspension of the first regular Senate session under the 18th Congress.
Pacquiao was not present during the session.
In an interview with Eagle News, Pacquiao’s wife Jinkee said he would no longer be able to attend President Rodrigo Duterte’s State of the Nation Address because the doctor had not allowed him to do so.
“Masakit ang mata niya,” Jinkee had said right after Pacquiao clinched the WBA welterweight title from Thurman.
It was Pacquiao’s 62nd win, his second via split decision.
