SAN FERNANDO CITY, April 3 (PIA) – Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz said a jobseeker would have to get the first available work and invest on experience which will boost his or her employability.
Speaking before the 687 new graduates of the Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University here on March 30, Baldoz said first time applicants should accept the first available job and ger the needed experience.
She added: “What you need after graduation is experience and a good employer who is willing to give you a chance to apply what you have learned and must look for jobs in the domestic labor market, not abroad.”
“Your objective is not merely to earn a living but to earn experience to get a better job with a better pay later on,” Baldoz added.
She likewise cited the important lessons for the graduates namely: “to exemplify excellence wherever we are and what we do and that will compel us to think global and do the things global ways, the only way to compete and survive.”
“In as much as the professional technical competence of an applicant is important, employers look for those equipped with effective communication skills, problem solving skills, creativity and innovativeness, a strong team spirit, interpersonal or social skills which is difficult to find in jobseekers,” Baldoz added.
Baldoz expresed the hope that the school has equipped the graduates with the right attitude and good work ethics that will qualify them to any job that fits their competency.
She emphasized the possession of skills after being hired and the continuing honing of these skills because the possession of the right skills in the right job in the right place is the best security for one’s employment.
Departments of Education (DepEd), Science of Technology (DOST), Labor and Employment (DOLE), Commissions on Higher Education (CHED), Professional Regulations (PRC), and Technical Skills Development Authority (TESDA) now implements a convergent planning and action in the provision of timely, accurate, relevant and accessible labor-market information at industry-specific careers and courses which includes local government unit-based and now school-based public employment services offices, access to government electronic job portal namely www.phil-job.net and job placement services.
Key employment generators for the next ten years based on the human resource roadmap include: Agribusiness, cyber services, health and wellness, hotel and restaurant, tourism, mining, construction, banking and finance, manufacturing, ownership, rent and real estate, transport and electricity, wholesale and retail trade including the four emerging industries: creative industries, diversified strategic farming and fisheries, power and utilities, and renewable energy.
Meanwhile, an additional 871 new graduates from the Colleges of Engineering, Technical Education and Arts and Management in DMMMSU also joined the 35th commencement exercises held March 31.
