SC gives gov’t 10 days to comment on petition vs Chico irrigation loan deal

(Eagle News)–The Supreme Court has given the government ten days to comment on the petition seeking a stop to the $3.6-million Chico irrigation loan deal with China.

But the SC did not grant the Makabayan bloc’s petition for a temporary restraining order on the deal pending the resolution of the main case.

The bloc led by Neri Colmenares had argued the loan deal was “onerous” and highly favored China.

“It is a disaster for the Philippines,” Colmenares had said, saying “the loan may just be one of the many secret loan agreements between China Philippines and China which could run in the billions.”
