“Sarah” slightly intensifies as it moves over PHL Sea

(Eagle News) — “Sarah” has slightly intensified as it moved over the Philippine Sea.

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said Signal No. 1 remains hoisted over Batanes as “Sarah,”  estimated 275 kilometers east of Basco, packed maximum sustained winds of 100 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 125 kph.

“Sarah” is moving west northwest at 10 kph.

PAGASA said gusty conditions will prevail over the northern and western sections of Northern Luzon, especially in the coastal and mountainous area due to the surge of the northeast monsoon.

Light to moderate rains with some isolated heavy rainshowers are expected over Isabela, Cagayan (especially the eastern section), Aurora and northern Quezon due to the trough of Severe Tropical Storm “Sarah.”

Sea travel, PAGASA said, is risky, especially for small seacraft, over the seaboards of Batanes, of Northern and Central Luzon and the western seaboard of Southern Luzon due to previaling or forecast rough sea conditions caused by “Sarah” and the northeast monsoon.

“Sarah” is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Saturday.
