Sandiganbayan allows provisional liberty for Imelda Marcos while she appeals graft conviction

(Eagle News)–The Sandiganbayan has allowed former First Lady Imelda Marcos to post bail for her provisional liberty pending the resolution of her appeal of her conviction for seven cases of graft.

In a statement, the Fifth Division ordered Marcos to post double the amount of the original bail she posted for her provisional liberty pending only the resolution of her motion to avail of post-conviction remedies, or P300,000 in total.

In allowing Marcos to avail of post-conviction remedies, the Fifth Division said she had  15 days to do so.

It said she could file a motion for reconsideration or a notice of appeal.

Earlier though, Marcos already filed a notice of appeal asking the Sandiganbayan to forward her case records to the SC for “further proceedings.”

Marcos was convicted of seven counts of graft stemming from  her alleged hand in the creation of foundations in Switzerland where her family allegedly had pecuniary interests.

The foundations were allegedly created while she was a member of then-President Ferdinand Marcos’ administration.
