Roque: President Duterte wants salary increase for teachers

(Eagle News) — Good news for teachers!

President Rodrigo Duterte has instructed the Department of Budget and Management and “all other agencies” to “find means to increase the salary of teachers.”

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said the President made the pronouncement during a  Cabinet meeting in Malacañang on Monday.

According to Roque, the President did not say how much the increase would be.

“But judging by what he wanted for the PNP and the AFP, it could be that he is also aiming to double the entry salary for teachers,” he said.

He said that according to the President, the increase in teachers’ salaries “will have to be tangible results of any implementation of the second tax reform package..”

Roque was referring to the second package of the newly passed Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion law.

The increase in the salaries of uniformed personnel including policemen and soldiers took effect in January 2018.
