Rains to prevail in parts of PHL; southwest monsoon affects W. Luzon, LPA seen near Catanduanes

 

(Eagle News)–Rains continue to pound parts of the country today, Aug. 3, as the southwest monsoon continues to affect the western section of Luzon.

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said as of 3 a.m., a low pressure area  was  1,135 kilometers east of Virac.

Monsoon rains will prevail over the provinces of Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Apayao, Abra, Benguet, Mt. Province, Ifugao and Kalinga while cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms will be experienced over Aurora due to the southwest monsoon, PAGASA said.

Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers are expected over the provinces of Batanes, Cagayan, Isabela, Quirino and Nueva Vizcaya caused by localized thunderstorms.

Moderate to strong winds will prevail over Ilocos region and its coastal waters will be rough to very rough, while winds will be light to moderate over the rest of Northern Luzon and in Aurora Province, which will have slight to moderate seas, according to the weather bureau.

As of 5 a.m., PAGASA has hoisted a yellow warning over Metro Manila, Bataan, Bataan, Cavite, Rizal, and in Zambales, particularly in San Antonio, San Felipe, San Marcelino, San Narciso, Castillejos, Subic and Olongapo.

Flooding in flood-prone areas is possible.

Meanwhile, light to moderate rains are affecting Zambales, particularly in Aanta Cruz,  Candelaria, Masinloc, Palauig, Iba, Botolan, Cabangan, Quezon, Laguna, Bulacan, Pampanga and  Batangas.

Pampanga said these may persist within 3 hours and may affect nearby areas.

“The public and the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices concerned are advised to MONITOR the weather condition..,” PAGASA said.
