Rains still expected in parts of PHL as “Fabian,” “Cempaka” continue to enhance southwest monsoon

(Eagle News) — Severe Tropical Storm “Fabian” is still moving slowly in a west northwest direction, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said.

While heavy rainfall is not expected in the country, the weather bureau said monsoon rains will be experienced in the next 24 hours over Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, Zambales, Bataan, Occidental Mindoro, and Palawan, as “Fabian” and Typhoon “Cempaka” located outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility continue to enhance the southwest monsoon.

PAGASA said there is also an “increasing likelihood” that Signal No. 1 will be hoisted over Batanes and Babuyan Islands.

Rough to very rough seas may be experienced over the seaboards of Batanes and Babuyan Islands, and the western seaboard of Palawan (including Kalayaan and Calamian Islands) and Occidental Mindoro (including Lubang Islands).

The weather bureau said “Fabian” will move generally west northwestward within the next 12 hours.

Afterwards, the tropical cyclone will track westward beginning tonight or tomorrow early morning.

“The latest track forecast shows an increasing likelihood of landfall in the vicinity of northern Taiwan by Friday evening or Saturday early morning – the same time period “FABIAN” may exit  (PAR),” PAGASA said.
