(Eagle News)—The Philippine Taekwondo Association wants an “indefinite ban” on the now-dismissed Ateneo Junior High School student who was seen bullying another in a viral video.
In a statement on Monday, Dec. 24, the PTA said it wants the boy, a member of the Ateneo taekwondo varsity team before he was dismissed after the video went viral, banned indefinitely from “all sanctioned events not limited to taekwondo-related events, belt promotions, tournaments, or facilities of member-institutions effective immediately.”
“In an effort to foster reconciliation we are recommending the student undergo rehabilitation with organizations equipped to handle his counseling,” the PTA said.
The PTA said it will conduct another evaluation “on the student’s compliance post the rehabilitation program prior to reinstatement and even then will put the practitioner on probationary status for a minimum of 12 months.”
According to the PTA, should he or his family decline this option, it will “have no choice but to expel the practitioner from the association.”
“We truly believe that the best way to move forward with this incident is to provide the child with the necessary guidelines and mentorship and an opportunity to exhibit remorse and provide restitution to the community in general,” the PTA said.
