President Duterte, Singaporean leader Yacob meet in Palace

(Eagle News)–President Rodrigo Duterte and Singaporean President Halimah Yacob met on Monday, Sept. 9, as part of her  visit to the country.

In a joint press statement in Malacañang, Duterte said they talked about “deepening our cooperation in defense and security, which includes strengthening defense dialogues and training exchanges between the military and special forces.”

He said they also “sought to further our cooperation in agriculture, education and training, science and technology, tourism and cultural exchanges,” and asked President Yacob’s “support as we encourage further Singaporean participation in our priority investment areas,”

“We discussed ways by which our cooperation could help contribute in bringing just and lasting peace and meaningful progress and development in Mindanao – one of the greatest and most crucial undertakings that our nation has embarked (on),” he added.

President Duterte also hosted a state banquet for Yacob and her official delegation members at the Rizal Hall later in the day.

The Singaporean leader is on a five-day visit to the country.
