President Duterte sends off Filipino athletes to 18th Asian Games

President Rodrigo Duterte sent off 272 athletes competing in 35 sports to Indonesia, where the Asian Games are slated to be held, on Monday, Aug. 13./PCOO/

(Eagle News)—President Rodrigo Duterte sent off over 200 athletes to the 18th Asian Games on Monday, Aug. 13, assuring them of the government’s support.

“All I ask from you is that you do your best and that you do it fair and square,” President Duterte said during send-off ceremonies in Malacañang.

Duterte noted that “every victory you bring back home is shared by the nation.”

The government for its part, he said, “will  continue to support the development of our athletes and intensify our commitment towards sports excellence, global competitiveness and the greater glory of your country, the Philippines.”

“We pray for your well-being and hope for your successful trip and also a safe return to the country,” he said.

A total of 272 Filipino athletes in 35 categories were sent by the country to the games slated to be held in Indonesia.
