MANILA, May 11 (PNA) — President Benigno S. Aquino III has left Myanmar and is now travelling back to the Philippines after attending the two-day Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) summit.
The president is expected to touch down at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) terminal 2 on Monday (May 12) at around 1 am.
During the summit, leaders of member states took turns to emphasize the importance of a united ASEAN.
President Aquino, for his part, had the chance to encourage the youth to actively participate in pursuing an inclusive ASEAN community.
He shared the Philippine experience in the successful signing of the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB).
The president also expressed hope that the CAB will serve as a model to other ASEAN countries dealing with similar problems with separatist groups.
Meanwhile, President Aquino expressed gratitude to ASEAN member states for helping in the aftermath of typhoon ‘Yolanda’ which devastated the Visayas region in November last year. (Philippine News Agency)
