PNP welcomes appointment of Faustino as new AFP chief of staff

(Eagle News) — Philippine National Police Chief Guillermo Eleazar welcomed the appointment of the country’s new Armed Forces of the Philippines Chief of Staff.

Eleazar said he was looking forward to work with the AFP, under Lieutenant General Jose Faustino Jr.’s leadership, “in the conduct of internal security operations as part of the PNP’s mandate to ensure peace and order in the country.”

“The AFP can expect that the police organization will give its full support and cooperation as we both aim to end terrorism and the communist insurgency which have been threatening our communities,” he said.

Prior to this latest appointment, Faustino was designated as the Commander of the Joint Task Force Mindanao.

He also briefly served as Commander of the Philippine Army in February.

Faustino also headed the Eastern Mindanao Command based in Davao City.

The new AFP chief replaced Gen. Cirilito Sobejana, who stepped down on Saturday, after reaching the mandatory retirement age of 56.
