PNP: Suspect in pregnant prosecutor’s slay killed during attempt to grab policeman’s gun

(Eagle News)–The suspect in the killing of an Ombudsman prosecutor was killed on Saturday, July 28, while he allegedly tried to grab the gun of a police officer in Camp Crame.

Angelito Avenido Jr., who was charged with the murder of Ombudsman Assistant Special Prosecutor Madonna Joy Tanyag, who was pregnant at that time, allegedly made the attempt while inside the Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit in Camp Karingal, Quezon City,  after a mugshot was taken of him.

The taking of the mugshot was part of the booking procedure he was supposed to undergo prior to his transfer to the Quezon City Jail.

The firearm he attempted to grab went off, and he was shot, the police said.

He was rushed to the East Avenue Medical Center, where he was declared dead on arrival.

The police are investigating the incident, which took place over a month after Avenido was arrested for the stabbing of Tanyag on Visayas Ave.

Investigators said Avenido’s motive was robbery.
