PNP respects Senate decision to reveal names of “ninja cops”

(Eagle News)–The Philippine National Police said it respects the decision of the Senate to reveal the names of policemen who allegedly recycle illegal drugs.

In a statement, the PNP requested, however, that the Senate “exercise due dilligence in protecting the rights of these persons against undue persecution.”

In any case, the PNP said it “only has the best interest of justice, fairness and good governance in uncovering the truth behind the alleged involvement of cops in recycling drug evidence.”

“We bow to the discretion of the Senate…,” the PNP said.

The Senate approved the disclosure of the names of the so-called “ninja cops” upon the motion of Senator Ronald dela Rosa, former PNP chief.

The names were disclosed during an executive session called for by former Criminal Investigation and Detection Group chief Benjamin Magalong, who had revealed during the Senate probe into the problems in the Bureau of Corrections that former and current high-ranking police officials were involved in the scheme.

In making the motion, Dela Rosa  noted that the name of PNP Chief Oscar Albayalde was being dragged unfairly.

Earlier, Senator Bong Go said President Rodrigo Duterte himself would announce the names as soon as cross-checking of the information was completed.
