(Reuters) — Staged on a giant leaf floating down the Amazon Rainforest´s Rio Negro, renowned Spanish tenor Placido Domingo gave an unprecedented concert alongside Brazilian sensation Ivete Sangalo on Saturday (August 27) in an effort to raise awareness about forest preservation.

A live broadcast of the floating concert, organised by music festival Rock in Rio and LiveXLive, aimed to encourage donations towards reforesting damaged areas of the Amazon.

Domingo said that the idea of the event was to show that every person’s contribution makes a difference.

“We all have to have a conscience to make a better world, and everybody can do something. It is not true when said, ‘but what can I do?’. This little bit, a drop of water, it makes an ocean, a little bit of sand makes a desert, so let´s all do it the best that we can, it is really so important,” said Domingo.

The tenor performed with Sangalo, considered the queen of Axe, a lively musical genre from the northeastern state of Bahia.

Rock in Rio committed to planting one million trees in the Amazon Rainforest, and aims to raise the number to three million through direct donations.
