(Eagle News)—The Philippines on Saturday, Sept. 23, condoled with Tanzania following the sinking of an overloaded ferry in Lake Victoria that left more than a hundred people dead.
In a statement, the Department of Foreign Affairs conveyed the country’s sympathies and expressed hope that more survivors would be found.
Ambassador to Kenya Norman Garibay told Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano the Philippine Embassy in Nairobi continues to monitor the search and rescue efforts.
Garibay said there are 289 Filipinos in Tanzania, but the embassy has so far not received any report of Filipinos being among the casualties in the incident.
