PHIVOLCS says no tsunami threat to PHL following 6.5-magnitude quake in Alaska

(Eagle News)—There is no tsunami threat to the Philippines, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said on Wednesday, April 3.

PHIVOLCS gave the assurance after it said a 6.5-magnitude earthquake hit the Aleutian Islands in the Rat Islands in Alaska.

The Alaska Earthquake Center said the  quake occurred at 1:36 p.m. on Tuesday.

It was centered 55 miles northwest of Amchitka.

Seismologist Natalia Rupert said there were no immediate reports the quake was felt.
