PHIVOLCS: 4.6-magnitude aftershock reported in E. Samar

A 4.6-magnitude aftershock was recorded in Eastern Samar after a 6.5-magnitude quake hit the province on Tuesday, April 23./PHIVOLCS/

(Eagle News)—A 4.6-magnitude aftershock was reported in Eastern Samar more than an hour after it was hit by a 6.5-magnitude quake on Tuesday, April 23.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the aftershock took place at 2:41 p.m., 22 kilometers northeast of Catbalogan.

The depth of focus of the aftershock was 5 kilometers.

An intensity IV was felt in Borongan.

Other aftershocks ranging from magnitude 1.8 to 3.3 magnitude were recorded in Eastern Samar after the earthquake at 1:37 p.m.

The 6.5-magnitude earthquake came a day after a 6.1-magnitude quake struck Luzon.

The Luzon quake resulted in the deaths of at least four people, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said.
