Perete: Inquest prosecutors find probable cause for inciting to sedition charge vs Jayme

(Eagle News)–Inquest prosecutors have found probable cause to indict Rodel Jayme for inciting to sedition in relation to the Cybercrime Prevention Act.

In making the recommendation,  the inquest prosecutors ruled that Jayme’s creation of the Metro Balita website and his use of the same to circulate the “Bikoy” videos which allege members of President Rodrigo Duterte’s family were linked to the illegal drug trade was “for the purpose of weakening the confidence of the people in government and stir up dissent against it,” Justice Undersecretary Markk Perete said.

According to Perete,  the prosecutors also upheld the validity of the arrest of Jayme, noting that he was subjected to surveillance by the National Bureau of Investigation, which “satisfied personal knowledge on the part of its agents of the lawful acts committed by him.”

“They further noted that since the circulation of the videos continue, the crime is still unfolding,” Perete said.

The justice undersecretary said inquest prosecutors are also set to charge other John and/or Jane Does with whom Jayme worked and/or transacted with the “appropriate court.”

“If convicted, Jayme faces imprisonment of six years and one day to twelve years, among other penalties,” Perete said.
