(Eagle News)–Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency chief Aaron Aquino on Tuesday, Nov. 5, welcomed the designation of Vice President Leni Robredo as co-chair of the inter-agency committee against illegal drugs.
In a statement, Aquino said Robredo “can well contribute (to) the advocacy and rehabilitation/reintegration clusters ..”
Aquino earlier said Robredo would fail as anti-drug czar as she was “not abreast with the supply reduction efforts and lacks experience in dealing and working with law enforcers.”
President Rodrigo Duterte designated Robredo as co-chair of the ICAD in a memo on Oct. 31, days after the vice president said the drug war had failed because it supposedly failed to curb the number of drug users in the country.
Duterte later said he was ready to relinquish his powers to enforce the law if Robredo thought she could do a better job.
He said he was ready to appoint her as drug czar for six months.
Members of the opposition, however, dismissed Duterte’s offer as a ruse, saying his was merely a verbal command.
