PDEA aiming for “drug-free” Philippines by 2022

(Eagle News) – The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency is aiming for a drug-free Philippines by the end of President Rodrigo Duterte’s term in 2022.

PDEA chief Aaron Aquino said that in line with this, the agency is aiming to clean 5,000 barangays affected by illegal drugs every year.

He said 30-34 anti-illegal drug operations were targeted every month.

“As of now, there are more or less 5,100 [drug-free barangays],” the PDEA chief said.

Aquino said there were also efforts to set up rehabilitation centers nationwide.

“I will create ‘Balay Silangan Reformation Centers’ nationwide. In every municipality, there should be a community-based reformation center and ginagawa ko na po ito and hopefully, matapos ko ito within the year, before maybe first quarter,” he said.
