(Eagle News)–President Bongbong Marcos has ordered the Department of Energy and other relevant agencies to fast-track the implementation of plans and strategies to ensure the development of the country’s electric vehicle industry.

During a sectoral meeting to discuss updates on the Philippines’  EV industry development on Tuesday, April 30, the President  noted the relevant agencies should, in particular, first focus on finding ways to lower the cost of production, financing, and the charging infrastructure.

Under the Comprehensive Roadmap for the EV Industry, the strategies to achieve the country’s EV industry targets  include demand generation, policy development, and manufacturing and human resource development.

The government has said this was  in compliance with the EV Industry Development Act for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and the improvement of energy security.

The Presidential Communications Office has said the Philippines is “far” from its target of 2.45 million EVs and 65000 charging stations by 2028.

The government earlier said the chief executive  wants to increase the share of electric vehicles in the country’s road transport to 10 percent.
