Dismisses conspiracy, proposal to commit coup d’etat charge
(Eagle News) — The Pasay Prosecutors Office has recommended the filing of an inciting to sedition case against Senator Antonio Trillanes IV.
The recommendation to file the case stems from one of Trillanes’ privilege speeches in which he called on soldiers to shoot President Rodrigo Duterte.
Duterte and his family were accused by the senator then of having bank transactions amounting to around P2 billion.
The Prosecutors Office, however, junked the charges for conspiracy and for proposal to commit a coup d’etat filed against Trillanes.
“The acts complained of do not show that respondent proposes to other persons the commission of the crime of coup d’etat,” the prosecutors office said.
In a statement, Trillanes denied he had incited anyone to commit sedition.
He said even then, he said the contents of his privilege speech were covered by parliamentary immunity.
“If their objective is to cow me to stop criticizing Duterte, well, just like what I said before, this further encourages me to fight what is wrong and evil….Unlike Duterte who is afraid to face his cases, I will face this,” he said. Meanne Corvera
