Panelo on Bato’s ‘kill, burn’ directive: Just ‘gulpe de gulat’

(Eagle News)– Chief Presidential legal counsel Salvador Panelo explained the remarks of Philippine National Police Director General Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa pushing drug surrenderees to kill and burn the house of drug lords as a simple “gulpe de gulat.”

Hindi naman siya nagti-threaten, drama lang iyon. Alam mo naman ang mga Pilipino, kung walang gulpe de gulat, hindi naman tayo … gulpe de gulat lang iyon,” Panelo told reporters.

Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella, on the other hand, described it as a heads- up.

“You know the reason why perhaps people have not fully appreciated how deeply the spread of the drug menace is because it’s only now that it’s being revealed. For the longest time, it was either ignored or not attended to and so people are not aware of the depths, it’s only now. And that’s why he’s making a large, loud call,” he explained during a press conference.

“So even that, I would say, is a call. It’s not an incitement to kill. It’s a warning, it’s a heads up,” Abella added.
