Panelo: Duterte wants those behind proliferation of fake drugs in market charged, arrested

(Eagle News) — President Rodrigo Duterte has ordered the Philippine National Police to arrest and charge those behind the proliferation of counterfeit drugs in the market.

Presidential Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo said the President gave the directive to PNP Chief Ronald dela Rosa on Tuesday night,  after the Food and Drug Administration issued a warning against the proliferation of fake 500-milligram Paracetamol Biogesic pills.

According to Panelo, the order covers persons who “manufacture, import, distribute, sell, administer, dispense fake drugs.”

“They will be charged with economic sabotage because those acts undermine not only the economy because of the law of supply and demand but it also threatens the security of the nation because it endangers the vast health of our people,” Panelo said.
