(Eagle News)–The Palace on Tuesday, Sept. 10, welcomed the suspension of 27 Bureau of Corrections officials over the Good Conduct Time Allowance law mess.
Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo made the remark in a press conference as he reiterated the Palace’s stand that “heads will roll” following the release of some convicts of heinous crimes, and the near-release of former Calauan, Laguna Mayor Antonio Sanchez under the law.
Sanchez was convicted of the rape and murder of Eileen Sarmenta and the murder of her friend Allan Gomez in the 1990s.
“Sabi ni Presidente, mula’t-sapul, ay dapat i-refer sa Ombudsman…para it will conduct its investigation, hence the suspension,” Panelo said.
“We welcome iyon,” he added.
Among those suspended were BuCor chief of documents and records section Ramoncito Roque and BuCor officer Mabel Bancel, who Yolanda Camelon said received her payment of P50,000 for the accreditation of GCTA for her partner and his release from the New Bilibid Prison.
Prior to this, President Rodrigo Duterte sacked Nicanor Faeldon as BuCor director-general, and ordered convicts released under the GCTA law to surrender or be treated as fugitives.
