Palace to Peter Lim: Surrender or else

(Eagle News) — The Palace on Thursday, Aug. 23, urged Peter Lim to surrender.

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque made the pronouncement days after Judge Gina Bibat-Palamos of the Makati Regional Trial Court Branch 65 ordered his arrest on charges of conspiracy to commit illegal drug trading.

Lim’s co-accused are self-confessed drug distributor Kerwin Espinosa, Lovely Impal and Marcelo Adorco, among others.

The charges against the group had been junked by a first panel of Department of Justice prosecutors, but then-Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre ordered the panel decision vacated following public outcry.

A second panel of prosecutors found probable cause for the charges against members of the group.

“If you don’t surrender, we will still get you but if you’re innocent then we guarantee you will be given your day in court,” Roque said.

According to Roque, Lim had nothing to fear as “we have competent courts.”

“We have I think proven to the whole world that we have an independent judiciary and you have nothing to fear by way of being a victim of injustice,” he added.
