(Eagle News) — Malacañang on Thursday summoned United States Ambassador to the Philippines Sung Kim over the US intelligence report that cited President Rodrigo Duterte’s drug war and his pronouncements on the revolutionary government and nationwide martial as “regional threats.”

In a statement, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said Executive Secretary Medialdea has also instructed the Department of Foreign Affairs, through the Philippine embassy in Washington D.C., “to coordinate and engage with the US agencies involved in the writing of the assessment.”

He said Medialdea has also “directed our embassy officials and staff in the US to provide the latter accurate information on the realities happening on the ground in the Philippines.”

He said these included the “actions taken by the President and his administration to promote socioeconomic development for the country and provide a safe and secure environment for all Filipinos, respecting at all times the rule of law.”

The Palace has already slammed the report by the US Intelligence Group, calling it “myopic and speculative.”

The  Feb. 13 report also included in its list of “regional threats” Hun Sen’s alleged repression of democratic institutions in Cambodia, and the Rohingya crisis in Myanmar.

It also expressed concerns over Thailand’s announcement of the conduct of elections, saying these could lead to “further militarization.”
