(Eagle News) – The Philippines joined the world in observing Earth Day, on Sunday, April 22, with Malacanang saying that the resolve to clean and restore Boracay Island to its previously pristine nature was in line with this.
“Today, April 22, we join the rest of the world in observing Earth Day,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in a statement.
“This year’s observance of Earth Day in the Philippines has stricken a resonant chord with the government’s resolve to clean and restore Boracay Island to its previous stature as one of the most beautiful and pristine beaches of the world,” he said.
Roque said that what happened in Boracay Island was a “good wake-up call to everyone that we must not sacrifice the future ecological sustainability on the altar of economic growth and development.”
Earth Day is an annual event celebrated on April 22. It was first celebrated in 1970, and is usually commemorated worldwide through events that support environmental protection. It is now observed in more than 193 countries are now coordinated globally by the Earth Day Network
