(Eagle News) — The Palace on Thursday, March 7, slammed United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet following her remarks the country’s drug war “should not be considered a model by any country.”
“Ilan beses na sinasabi natin na mas marunong pa sila dito sa bansa how to deal with our problems,”Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said.
According to Panelo, in the first place, Bachelet’s remarks were based on “information coming from the critics and detractors of the administration.”
He noted that the 27,000 figure which Bachelet said constituted drug war deaths citing “several sources” was “wrong.”
The government’s tally is 5,176 deaths from July 1, 2016 to January 31, 2019.
The Palace has maintained the drug war was done in accordance with the rule of law.
It has also condemned policemen who may be using the war on drugs as a pretext to commit illegal activities.
