Palace: Lower number of victims of crimes in PHL proof drug war is working “effectively, efficiently”

(Eagle News)–The Palace on Friday, Nov. 1, welcomed the results of a Social Weather Stations survey showing fewer victims of common crimes in the last six months.

In a statement, Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said the lower rate of 5.6 percent of Filipino families who reported being victims of crimes such as as theft, robbery, break-ins, carnapping, among others, in the September victimization survey was proof that the administration’s drug war was “working effectively and efficiently with the results being significant, palpable, and meaningful.”

“We consider this a clear repudiation of the black propaganda and the false narratives peddled by those belonging to the political opposition, the left, the activist members of the clergy, and the vocal critics of the President and the current government, which we expect would consciously refuse to see and deliberately look the other way around and say that this administration’s fight against crimes and drugs remains a failure,” Panelo said.

“It does not therefore take a rocket scientist to understand that the Chief Executive’s performance, satisfaction, approval and trust ratings remain at the stratospheric level at the midpoint of his presidency,” he added.

The rating was lower than the 7 percent of families who reported being victimized by crimes in June.

Panelo’s statement came after Vice President Leni Robredo said the drug war was a failure because it had failed to curb the number of drug users in the country.

President Rodrigo Duterte has slammed Robredo for her comment, and challenged her to assume the role of drug czar if she thought she could do a better job.

On Thursday, Oct. 31, Duterte reiterated his offer, saying he would give her a Cabinet rank.
