Palace: Gov’t to extend legal assistance to Filipina nabbed in Malaysia for alleged drug trafficking

(Eagle News)–The Palace on Thursday, July 25, said the government would be extending free legal assistance to the Filipina who was arrested by Malaysian authorities for allegedly trafficking over 5.9 kilograms of shabu.

“She could be an innocent courier and not a drug pusher or drug trafficker, ” Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo  said, without identifying the suspect.

According to Panelo, if  “she is found guilty unfairly by the Malaysian court, then we can avail of legal remedies available under the Malaysian legal system to exonerate her.”

“But if evidence proves that she is deeply involved in drug trafficking, then we will let the law take its course,” he said.

Police said the Filipina was arrested in a house in Kota Kinabalu.

The 5.4 kilograms of illegal drugs, which were seized from a car and tea packets, were however reportedly owned by a man who remains at large.
