Palace: Evangelista’s resignation “right step toward upholding” PMA integrity

(Eagle News)–The Palace on Tuesday, Sept. 24, welcomed the resignation of the superintendent of the Philippine Military Academy following the death of a cadet allegedly due to hazing.

In a statement, Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said the resignation of Lt. Gen. Ronnie Evangelista was the “right step towards upholding the integrity of the PMA as the country’s premier military institution” after the death of Cadet 4th Class Darwin Dormitorio.

Dormitorio was found unconscious inside a room in Mayo Hall Annex in Fort del Pilar in Baguio on Wednesday, Sept. 18.

He was rushed to the hospital where he died.

Panelo said the resignation was also recognized “as a form of genuine delicadeza” on the part of Evangelista.

The Palace spokesperson also gave the assurance there would be no whitewash in the probe.

Authorities have so far identified three suspects in the incident.
