Palace: Duterte wants probe of logistical problems that hounded PHL’s SEA Games hosting

(Eagle News) — President Rodrigo Duterte wants a probe into the logistical problems that hounded the Philippines’ hosting of the Southeast Asian Games.

Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said the probe would cover the organizers of the SEA Games, including Philippine  Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee head Alan Peter Cayetano, who was Duterte’s running mate in the 2016 elections.

He said the P50-million cauldron would also be probed.

A parallel investigation by Congress could also be conducted, he said.

At least two international football teams have complained about the organizers’ handling of the games, with pictures of some members of one team sleeping on a hotel floor circulating on social media.

But Century Park Hotel, where the pictures were taken, had said the football team members could not be accommodated upon their arrival because they arrived sooner than expected, around 4 a.m.

Standard check-in time was 2 p.m.

PHISGOC has said the change in the team’s arrival was relayed late to them.

PHISGOC has already apologized for the mishaps, and has vowed to do better.
