PAGASA: “Samuel” to make landfall over Eastern Visayas-Caraga area

More areas placed under Signal No. 1

(Eagle News)–More areas were placed under Storm Signal Number 1 as Tropical Depression “Samuel” slightly accelerated on Monday, Nov. 19, and is expected to make landfall over the Eastern Visayas-Caraga area tomorrow afternoon or evening.

Masbate, Samar, Eastern Samar, Biliran, Leyte, Southern Leyte, Bohol, Cebu, Siquijor, Negros Oriental, Negros Occidental, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Dinagat Island, Misamis Oriental and Camiguin are now under Signal No. 1, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said.

It said Signal No. 1 may also be hoisted over Northern Samar, Capiz, Iloilo and Guimaras next.

As of 4 p.m., the center of “Samuel” was located 505 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur.

It is packing maximum sustained winds of up to 55 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 65 kilometers per hour.

It is moving northwest at 25 kilometers per hour.

Moderate to heavy rains are expected over Caraga Region, Eastern Visayas, Central Visayas, and the provinces of Negros Occidental, Davao Oriental, Compostela Valley, Bukidnon, Misamis Oriental and Camiguin, PAGASA said.

Fisherfolk and people with small seacraft are advised not to venture out into areas under Signal No. 1 and in the eastern and southern seaboards of Mindanao.
