PAGASA monitoring tropical depression outside PAR as “Urduja” traverses northern part of Samar

(Eagle News) — The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration is monitoring a tropical depression outside the Philippine area of responsibility as Tropical Storm “Urduja” continues to traverse the northern part of Samar.

In its 8 p.m. bulletin, PAGASA said the tropical depression was located 2330 kilometers east of Mindanao.

Meanwhile, as of 7 p.m., the center of “Urduja” was in the vicinity of San Jorge, Samar.

“Urduja” is packing maximum sustained winds of 75 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 120 kilometers per hour.

It is forecast to move west at 15 kilometers per hour.

Signal No. 2  has been hoisted over Sorsogon, Masbate including Ticao Island, Romblon, Cuyo Islands, Northern Samar, Northern part of Samar, Biliran, Aklan, Capiz, Northern Antique, and Northern Iloilo.

Southern Quezon, Marinduque, Southern part of Occidental Mindoro, Southern part of Oriental Mindoro Catanduanes, Camarines Sur, Albay, Burias Island, Northern Palawan including Calamian Group of Islands, Rest of Iloilo, Rest of Antique, Guimaras, Negros Occidental, Northern part of Negros Oriental, Northern Cebu, Leyte, Eastern Samar, and Rest of Samar are under Signal No. 1.

PAGASA said scattered to widespread rains will continue over Central and Western Visayas, Bicol Region, Southern Quezon, Batangas, Cavite, Laguna, Mindoro Provinces, Marinduque, Romblon and Cuyo Islands and are expected to prevail over Northern Palawan including Calamian Goup of Islands.

“Residents of these areas must undertake appropriate measures against flooding and landslides and coordinate with their local disaster risk reduction and management offices,” PAGASA said.

Meanwhile, rains over Eastern Visayas are forecast to gradually weaken, according to the weather bureau.

PAGASA said sea travel remains risky over the seaboards of areas under tropical cyclone warning signals.
