(Eagle News)–Otso Diretso senatorial bet Romulo Macalintal has conceded defeat.
Macalintal announced the concession in a statement issued on Tuesday, a day after the May 13 elections.
Macalintal who, as of Tuesday morning, based on partial unofficial results, was in 26th place in the senatorial race, is the first senatorial bet to wave the white flag.
“From the results coming from all the clustered precincts, it is clear that a great majority of our voters have chosen other candidates. And I respect their decision..,” Macalintal said.
He thanked Vice President Leni Robredo, their campaign manager Senator Kiko Pangilinan and his fellow Otso Diretso candidates “for making our campaign a very historic and worthy experience.”
“Yes, I am deeply honored and privileged campaigning with all of you,” he said.
He also thanked his supporters, and gave the assurance he would continue to serve them despite his defeat.
As of Tuesday morning, no Otso Diretso senatorial bet has made it to the winning top 12.
