Ombudsman urged to suspend Senator De Lima for alleged involvement in illegal drug trade

(Eagle News) — A Filipino politician on Friday, November 18, urged the Office of the Ombudsman to investigate and suspend Senator Leila de Lima, whose name had been repeatedly mentioned by several witnesses who have testified regarding her connections to the illegal drug trade.

Greco Belgica, a former Manila City councilor, filed a formal complaint with the office of Ombudsman Conchita Carpio-Morales and asked her to suspend the lady senator for 90-days as the investigation on her alleged involvement in the illegal drug trade is pending before the courts.

He also appealed to the Ombudsman to be fair.  Belgica noted that just as Ombudsman Morales initiated a motu propio investigation of Philippine National Police Chief Ronald dela Rosa for an all expenses paid trip in Las Vegas sponsored by Senator Manny Pacquiao,  so should she do the same and probe De Lima, especially after her admission that she committed adultery.   De Lima recently gave a televised interview admitting her illicit relationship with her former driver-bodyguard Ronnie Dayan, a married man.  The alleged affair, according to the controversial lady senator, lasted for “a few years.”
