NAIA to be closed for 24 hours starting 10 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 1

(Eagle News)–The  Ninoy Aquino International Airport will be closed to all types of flight operations for 24 hours starting 10 a.m. today.

In a statement, MIAA said the temporary closure until 10 a.m. of Nov. 2 was to ensure passenger safety, with “Rolly” expected to bring rains over parts of the country.

As of the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration’s latest advisory, “Rolly” has intensified into a super typhoon and is hours from landfall over Catanduanes.

According to weather forecasts, “Rolly” will hit Metro Manila noon of November 1, Sunday, and its effects are expected to be felt until early morning of November 2, Monday.

MIAA General Manager Ed Monreal appealed to passengers to refrain from going to NAIA for the duration of the 24-hour closure.

He urged them to coordinate with their airlines to get instructions about their new flight schedules.

Once NAIA reopens, MIAA said priority will be given to scheduled flights on the same day.

“Flights affected by the 24-hour closure will be slotted in a way that would cause minimal delay in the passengers’ travel plans,” MIAA said.

Monreal  has ordered the lifting of the scheduled runway maintenance closure on November 2 to enable recovery flights.

“For updates on flight operations and other inquires, the MIAA can be reached through its SMS Hotline 0917-8396242 / 0918-9186242; Voice Hotline 88771-1111 or through its Facebook Page and Twitter account @MIAAGovPh,” MIAA said.
