Muntinlupa court denies De Lima’s appeal for her to be allowed to attend son’s grad rites

(Eagle News) — A Muntinlupa court has denied Senator Leila de Lima’s appeal for her to be allowed to attend her son’s graduation rites this weekend.

Branch 205 Judge Amelia Fabros-Corpuz earlier denied De Lima’s request to attend  Vincent Joshua De Lima Bohol’s graduation ceremonies at San Beda College School of Law in Alabang, saying she “cannot be given a different treatment as that of other prisoners whose liberty is curtailed, pending the final resolution of their criminal cases.”

She also noted that De Lima’s presence in the Sunday ceremonies was “not indispensable”; and the risk of flight was “very high,” among others.

“In sum, accused De Lima’s presence in the said Commencement Exercises will disrupt the solemnity of the said occasion not only for the other attendees and parents but also for her son who will celebrate the momentous occasion,” the judge said.
