(Eagle News) — Beware of fake traffic enforcers.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority issued the warning on Tuesday, after it was discovered a motorist had been given a fake violation ticket by a man posing as one of the agency’s men.

In a statement, the MMDA said the motorist, a resident of Mandaluyong, made the discovery after going to the MMDA headquarters to redeem his driver’s license.

“The agency (did) not have the motorist’s driver’s license,” Jojo Garcia, acting MMDA general manager, said.

According to Garcia, MMDA Chairman Danilo Lim has ordered a probe into the incident.

Garcia said to prevent similar incidents from happening, motorists should ask for the traffic enforcer’s mission order, which specifies his or her tasks, place of assignment and time of duty.

“It is the responsibility of the traffic enforcer to carry his mission order at all times. If he does not bear his mission order, he is unauthorized,” Garcia said, as he urged the public to report any “dubious” traffic enforcers.

He added even real traffic enforcers should not just confiscate the driver’s license of a motorist except when she or he is involved in a road crash.
