January 30 Miss Universe Coronation event, not a holiday

DAVAO CITY Jan. 27 (PIA)- With a deluge of calls from the public regarding the possibility of a holiday on January 30 or the coronation day of Miss Universe 2017, the Palace said the day would remain a working day.

Joey Sem Dalumpines, Information Officer III of the Philippine Information Agency Region-XI said he had received dozens of calls in the Davao regional office asking if January 30 has been declared as a holiday.

The Philippine Information Agency offices in the regions receives official copies of proclamations on the declaration of holidays which are then disseminated to the public.

Dalumpines advised the public not to believe reports of a Miss Universe holiday since there is no official proclamation.

In a statement to the media, Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea said that there are no plans of declaring a holiday on the 30th. The day will still be a regular working day.

Several sectors have urged President Rodrigo Duterte to declare a holiday on the coronation day which will be held at the Mall of Asia Arena in Manila.

The Philippines has its bet Maxine Medina competing with 88 other contestants from different countries. The country is aiming to have back-to-back title holders with Pia Wurtzbach winning last year. (PIA/RG Alama)
