Malacañang says dip in President Duterte’s ratings, viewed as “constructive criticism”

QUEZON CITY, Philippines (Eagle News) – Malacañang on Monday, October 9 said that President Duterte views the dip in his satisfaction ratings as part of constructive criticism.

“We also encourage constructive criticism, because it is the only way for us in government to focus on our job and para mapaalala din – kami sa gobyerno – na kung ano iyong mga dapat naming gawin para mas lalo kaming maging in tune with the sentiment of the people,” Presidential Communications Secretary Martin Andanar said in a radio interview.

In the latest survey conducted by the Social Weather Station, the President’s satisfaction rating fell by 18%, from “very good” to “good” level in the third quarter.

The Third Quarter 2017 Social Weather Survey released on Sunday showed Duterte obtaining a net satisfaction rating of +48, which is 18 points lower than the “very good” net satisfaction rating of +66 he got in June 2017.

This was the first time Duterte’s net satisfaction rating fell below the +60 mark.

The survey was conducted from September 23 to 27. It showed that 67 percent of respondents were “satisfied,” 14 percent were “undecided,” and 19 percent were “dissatisfied” with the President’s performance.

Andanar said that they will take into consideration the result of the SWS survey in their future plans.

“Ating pag-aaralan itong survey. We will go to the details of it. Titingnan natin kung saan siya nagkamali, titingnan natin kung saan tayo puwedeng mag-improve,” he said.

“As I said, we accept criticisms/surveys constructively, and it is really what the present administration is all about.., it’s about moving forward, titingnan kung saan nagkamali, make adjustment and move forward,” he added.

-Public trust for Duterte still “very good”

Andanar also said that although the President’s satisfaction dropped, the public’s trust in the President remains “very good.”

According to the SWS, the September 2017 survey also found 73% of Filipinos with much trust, 15% undecided, and 12% with little trust in President Duterte.

“This gives a net trust rating of +60 (% much trust minus % little trust, correctly rounded), classified by SWS as very good,” the SWS report said.

“This is a 15-point decline, and one grade below, the excellent +75 (82% much trust, 7% little trust) in June 2017,” it added.
