Luzon, Visayas grids on yellow alert on Friday, April 26

(Eagle News)–The Luzon and Visayas grids will be on yellow alert on Friday, April 26, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines said.

The NGCP said the alert over Luzon, in particular, will be in place from 1 to 4 p.m. and from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Four plants have been on forced outage since 2023, four between January and March 2024, and 14 since April 2024, while two others are running on derated capacity.

A total of 1,512.7 MW is unavailable to the grid, the NGCP said, with available capacity in Luzon at 14,535 megawatts (MW) and expected peak demand at 13,751 MW.

The NGCP said, meanwhile, the alert over the Visayas grid is expected from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

“[One] plant has been on forced outage since 2022, 2 since 2023, 2 between January and March 2024, and 14 since April 2024; while 8 others are running on derated capacities, for a total of 604.1MW unavailable to the grid,” the NGCP said.

The NGCP said Visayas has an available  capacity of 2,791 MW and a peak demand of 2,530 MW.

A yellow alert means the operating margin is insufficient to meet the transmission grid’s contingency requirement.
